Pastoral Theology, The Man of God: His Calling and Godly Life
by Albert N. Martin
Available at Trinity Book Service
“For forty-six years it was my privilege to fulfill the office and responsibilities of an elder set apart to ‘labor in preaching and teaching’ (1 Tim. 5:17) within the life and ministry of Trinity Baptist Church (TBC). During twenty of those years, the church maintained a church-based pastoral training center called the Trinity Ministerial Academy (TMA). While enrolled in the Academy, students embarked on a program which embodied a classic seminary curriculum. From the beginning of this endeavor the elders requested that I teach all the courses in pastoral theology, eventually covering a wide range of pastoral issues which I taught sequentially in eight units in a four-year cycle.”
“Since TMA was a ministry of a confessional church, holding to The Second London Baptist Confession of Faith of 1689 (the “second child” of The Westminster Confession of Faith), the theological, ecclesiastical, and practical instruction and counsel given in these lectures is decidedly and unashamedly Evangelical, Calvinistic, Reformed, Experiential, and Baptist. However, I trust that the lectures breathe a spirit of catholicity and that this fact will make the Lectures useful to all Bible-believing, Christ-loving men who desire to have every facet of their pastoral labors conformed to the precepts, precedents, and principles of the Scriptures (Isa. 8:20).”
